mechanics and meatloaf

there was a moment today around three o clock
when the sun flashed us all and the horse looked
on fire and the fields were golden
i was putting in some steps to get over the fence
from pasture to pasture without having to open a gate
the goat was laying in a pile of hay
munching and munching
and she was golden too... the whole scene was
how most painters would paint heaven
if they could
except it was so cold
heaven confuses me anyway
you need hell to feel heaven
that's what i think
but of course that could be true
or untrue
what do we know, really
other than the things we invent ourselves
like numbers and mechanics and meatloaf
it's easy to know something if you
make it up yourself
